5 WAYS YOU MAY BE MAKING LIFE DIFFICULT FOR YOUR CAT
You love your cats dearly and provide the best for them. However, even with their best interests at heart, you may be stressing them out unintentionally. Here are 5 ways you may be making life difficult for your cat without even you knowing it.
1. DIRTY LITTER BOX
Cats are clean creatures and they require high levels of cleanliness to feel happy and contented. When you do not clean the litter box often or thorough enough, they will feel very stressed out. This is especially so in multi cat households. Imagine going to the toilet and seeing someone else's poop in the toilet bowl. Grossed out? Yes, your cat will feel the same, or even more. Cleaning your litter box very often will greatly increase your cat's happiness. If you have multiple cats, having more litter boxes will help tremendously.
2. ROUGH HANDLING
Cats are fragile creatures and while they love close contact with their beloved humans, they do not appreciate being rough handled at all. Sensitive areas such as their bellies and hind areas should not be grabbed or groped. When your cat trusts you, they will allow you to touch these sensitive areas but please be gentle. Rough handling may result in your cat avoiding contact with you in future as it is really unpleasant for them.
3. LOUD NOISES
Cats have an acute sense of hearing and have a wider range of hearing than dogs even. As such, loud noises can be really uncomfortable for cats. If you are watching a movie at home or have guests over such that loud noises cannot be avoided, do provide your cat access to a quieter area in the house where he can retreat to.
4. BRINGING YOUR CAT OUT
Let's face it. Cats are not dogs. Dogs love exploring new places while cats do not. Cats love being in an environment that they are familiar with. Bringing your cat out may create much stress for your cat, even though you may think it is a good idea. While some cats are comfortable and happy exploring the world with you, most cats prefer to stay at home.
5. IRREGULAR MEAL TIMES
Cats, especially indoor pets, love regular feeding times as they are unable to go out to hunt for food. This is the main reason why many cats wake their owners up in the morning for their breakfast. Having regular, consistent meal times will ensure that your cat do not go hungry and prevent them from having to guess when their next meal time is.
